How You Can Help
Perhaps, in difficult times for many of our neighbors in Caldwell County, you're asking, "How Can I Help?" We can think of three different ways that you can do so through the Department of Social Services:
Volunteer
Examples of Volunteer Opportunities:
- Adolescent Parenting Program (APP) matches a volunteer with a single, teen mom;
- Permanency Planning uses volunteers to ensure the best plans are made for children;
- Tutoring foster children;
- Home repair projects for elderly citizens;
- Helping with activities at local nursing homes;
- Adopt-A-Social-Worker (a group of volunteers helps a specific worker's caseload of clients);
- Volunteering to drive for medical appointments, foster child visitation, etc.;
- Make a major commitment to children by becoming a Foster Parent.
Donate Supplies
Examples:
- School supplies for foster children;
- Cleaning supplies for families involved with DSS;
- Used or new suitcases for foster children;
- Used or new toys;
- Socks for elderly adults;
- New car seats;
- Books and family videos;
- Working vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and dryers;
- Used or new clothes for foster children, elderly adults, or others involved with DSS, including clothes or shoes appropriate for job interviews
Donate Financial Resources
Your financial contributions can be designated for specific purposes, such as the Senior Fund, the Family Fund (for school supplies, summer activities for foster kids, etc.), the Fuel Fund, funds to purchase telephone alert systems for elderly citizens or disabled adults, or funds to purchase lice treatment kits for children. If you wish to donate with a check, please make the check out to ‘Caldwell County Donated Funds.' If you wish, you may designate on the check for which purpose you would like your donation to be spent. All contributions are tax-deductible.
