Members of the Caldwell County Board of Social Services serve three-year terms, which are staggered to provide continuity. Two members of the Board (currently, Ronald Roukema and Alden Starnes) are appointed by the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners. Two members of the Board (currently, Mattie Patterson and Frances Fox) are appointed by the North Carolina Social Services Commission. The fifth (currently, Metaleen Thomas) is appointed by the other four members of the Board.

The Board meets once a month, scheduled for the last Tuesday of every month, in the City-County Chambers at the County Office Building (905 West Avenue) in Lenoir. The public is welcome to attend, and a period of time is allotted during each Board meeting for public comment. See our Calendar for dates of future Board meetings.
