NEW: Important Information about Medicare & Prescription Drugs
Purpose
To pay medical bills for eligible low income people who can't afford the cost of health care.
Eligibility
Must be at least 65 years of age or disabled according to Social Security standards and meet income and reserve guidelines. The most well-known Medicaid categories for adults are MAA (for residents age 65 or over), MAB (for the blind, as defined by Social Security), and MAD (for the disabled, as defined by Social Security).
Other Adult Medicaid programs include:
- Long Term Care–which helps individuals in nursing facilities with their cost of care and other medical expenses.
- Special Assistance–which helps individuals in domiciliary care facilities with their cost of care and other medical expenses.
- CAP or Community Alternatives Program–provides services for individuals who need nursing home care but choose to remain at home. Medicaid pays for the CAP services.
Application Procedure
A client or representative of a potential client may apply in person at the Department of Social Services. The office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
