Emergency Assistance
Purpose
To provide immediate assistance to families and individuals experiencing a financial crisis. Assistance is provided through Federal and local funds and in collaboration with other local agencies.
Eligibility
Crisis Intervention Program (CIP): for any financially eligible individual or family experiencing a heating or cooling crisis (financial guidelines subject to change).
Emergency Assistance (WFFA-EA): for any financially eligible family, with at least one member under age 18, that is experiencing a financial crisis involving heating, cooling, rent, car repair, etc. (financial guidelines subject to change)
United Way (UW): for any financial emergency where CIP or WFFA-EA does not apply or those funds are exhausted.
Application Procedure
No appointments are necessary. Come to our office in Lenoir, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
Clients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bring documents with you as needed, including proof of income, past due bills, Social Security numbers and birthdates for all affected family members, etc.
Special Information
DSS works with other agencies in the community to help relieve a financial crisis, such as Yokefellow, Salvation Army, South Caldwell Christian Ministries, Red Cross, and area churches.
Aid can be provided immediately.
