Purpose

To provide services for individuals who are deemed to be incompetent by the court. These individuals do not have family who are willing, or able, to act on behalf of the individual. DSS is then held responsible to make decisions on the individual's behalf and/or manage the financial affairs of the person.

Eligibility

Any adult who has been declared by the court to be mentally incompetent.

Special Information

DSS is responsible for making annual reports to the court.

Guardianship ends at the time of death at which time DSS is not allowed to make decisions on the ward's behalf.
