Tax Administrator
Mack Chandler, Tax Administrator
The Caldwell County Tax Administrator's office bills and collects Ad Valorem taxes for the County. Our function is mandated by the North Carolina Machinery Act, which contains laws passed by the General Assembly concerning Ad Valorem taxes.
Caldwell County is on an automatic listing system for real estate. Each year the owner of record as of January 1st receives the tax bill for their land and building/s for that year. These bills are prepared and mailed normally in July or early August.
Motor vehicles are billed to the registered owner three months following the renewal month and are due in the fourth month. These renewals are valued, coded, billed, and mailed monthly based upon the list of registered owners sent from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Tax Office has the responsibility of assuring all values are assessed equitably for all property. The Tax Collector has the responsibility to see that taxes are paid for each property, using methods of attachment, garnishment, or in rem collection, if necessary.
